about

In 2019 I hastily recorded three marimba solos, a percussion solo, two mbira arrangements, a pop song, and five newly commissioned pieces of chamber music.

I released these as two separate albums and went on a 3-week DIY marimba tour in a Honda Fit.

This music is sloppy. Full of love, sarcasm, and little touch of self seriousness. I am forever grateful for the gracious friends that have carved out time to work with me.

For You - I've known Eric since high school. We went through the salad days together and I love this absolute gem of a song that he wrote. He's a great songwriter and an absolute madman.

Strive To Be Happy - A simple, sweet staple in marimba literature by the incomparable Ivan Trevino.

Simple Sounds for Complex Written - The first piece of chamber music I ever commissioned. Dr. Mark Lewis wrote a really fun open score piece that I recorded with him, his wife Keri Giles, and vibraphonist Katie Kilroy.

Homebody - As far as I know I'm the only person who has ever played this on marimba rather than hammer dulcimer.

Chant Mechanics, Garden, and Blip Study - An infuriating percussion piece with backing track that I commissioned from Rob Funkhouser. I asked him to write something for instruments that I could fit into a backpack and he delivered.

Day Off - Finally, something that call for an absurd amount of jangling keys.

Sorry You're Sick and I'll Fly Away - Arranged by yours truly. I have a terrible singing voice but I love to sing. Forever dedicated to B. Michael Williams.

What Helps Your Grow - I was going to play this song on tour but then I choked on it during the album release and was too afraid to play it! Sorry Krissy.

Convalescing - I finally got to improvise with Troy Conn. Absolute legened and a much needed addition to this improvisation written by Isabel Crespo.

Things Fall Into Place - I am forever grateful to Roo Warren's patience with recording this. I'm sorry Krissy but this is a monster and I think we ended up with... something?

Thanks to John Nipe for audio engineering and Adam Snow, Ashley Peeples, Brandon Byron, Sean Robinson, Katie Kilroy, Tim McFall, Lillian Peel, Mark Lewis, Keri Giles, Roo Warren, and Troy Conn for making this music with me.
